Information about cookies

Under the Electronic Communications Act (entered in force on 1st of July 2011), all visitors to a website with cookies must have access to information stating that the website contains cookies and the purpose for which cookies are used. Visitors must also consent to cookies being used.

WHAT IS A COOKIE?
A ‘cookie’ is a small text file that a website asks to be saved on the visitor’s computer. Cookies are used on many websites to allow visitors to use various functions. Information contained in cookies can also be used to track the surfing of a user on websites that use the same cookie.

There are two kinds of cookie. One kind saves a file for a long time on the visitor’s computer; this cookie then has an expiry date. This kind of cookie is used, for example, for functions that tell users about any new features since they last visited the website in question. When the expiry date has passed, the cookie is deleted when the user returns to the website that created it.

The second kind of cookie is called a ‘session cookie’ and does not have an expiry date. This cookie is temporarily stored in the memory of a user’s computer while this user is surfing on a site, for example to keep track of which language the user has chosen. Session cookies are not stored in the user’s computer for a long period of time, but disappear when the user shuts down their web browser.

WHY DO WE COLLECT COOKIES?
We collect cookies on our websites in order to learn more about our users, how our content and services are used, which helps us to improve and develop the site. We also provide a location service where visitors can choose to save their location.

FUNCTIONALITY AND CONTENT.
We use the three-party functions such as Youtube (play videos), as well as sharing services like Facebook and Twitter. Our commentary service is provided by Disqus. These partners may use their own cookies that are saved, we recommend that you check their websites for more information on how they use cookies and their terms.

WEB ANALYTICS.
We use Google Analytics to collect information about our visitors, which is done by saved cookies. We obtain information about how visitors use the site, which pages were visited, which website visitors are coming from, number of visits, as well as what the device that was used during the visit. The purpose of collection is to improve and develop the site.

We collect no information that can identify who the visitor is and we leave nor out the collected information to third parties. We also do not collect any information about our visitors visits on other sites / surfing habits. If you set your browser to not accept cookies, no information will be stored.

HOW CAN I STOP USE COOKIES?
Cookies can be used when users personally wish to customise websites to their own user preferences. This may, for example, apply to wishes in respect of the design of a website that you frequently visit, adapted contrast or font size for ergonomic reasons, or adapted sorting or selection. If you choose to disable cookies, some services may stop working.

Most web browsers can be configured to completely block the use of cookies.

You can also choose to configure your web browser so that you can decide whether you want to accept each new cookie that a website sends to your computer. Such a configuration means that you are informed about the cookie prior to it being stored and can choose whether or not to accept it being stored.
